future music
the view from my window
yesterday was future music festival in sydney. unfortunately i did not bring my camera (only iphone), but had an incredible time. it lasted from 2-10pm and i think most people there were dancing for that entire period.
(camera phone)
highlights:
one of the earlier djs played this really amusing song lele - "breakfast"
mr oizo drinking champagne out of the bottle, and smoking a cigarette, all while djing. plus he played justice.
css playing "meeting paris hilton", and was just all around fun.
and yacht put on an amazing show that was surprisingly intimate for such a large festival. they even took a Q and A from the crowd, which included a fan asking jona "do you like mustaches?" to which he replied "not normally, but i do like yours". they played some new songs. and they were super nice when i talked to them afterwards.
i found a place to stay for the next week until i move into a more permanent place... its in bondi beach, located about as close to the beach as you can get.
i really love living by the beach, being able to check the surf conditions by peering outside my window or stepping outside to take a run on the sand. yet i dont think i could live here for the whole semester because of the time it takes to get everywhere by bus (normally an hour to get to school or meet up with friends). so its a good place to stay for now but hopefully soon ill be living closer to school

today
i got stung by a jellyfish
is it dangerous? i asked the lifegaurd
no, just really painful he answered
then i was eating lunch and richard branson invited me to join him
wow
some songs:
the blow - watch the water roll up
andrew bird - fits & dizzyspells

soundwave
so sunday was the soundwave music festival... kind of the australian version of warped tour, except that it was held at a racetrack
first saw straylight run... the crowd was so small for some reason that i easily got up against the barricade
it made me happy to hear this song... straylight run - existentialism on prom night
minus the bear put on a great show
(i love my new zoom lens because it lets me get way up close pictures like that)
best song... also best name... minus the bear - absinthe party in the fly honey warehouse
say anything was amazing (as always) and said it was their first show in australia. the crowd definitely loved them, and was singing along with every song. max seemed really happy/surprised about this and promised to come back.
she called me on the phone, and... say anything - wow i can get sexual too
valencia was surprisingly fun, more energetic than i expected
the singer and bass player were subtly fighting for the crowds attention, it was amusing (though not intentionally)
got to see parts of alot of other bands like alkaline trio, the subways, hellogoodbye, horse the band, underoath, i am the avalanche
finally, nine inch nails... was anti-climactic
they didnt seem to have the energy that i expected, and neither did the crowd while they were playing. so i was a little let down, and then left because i was exhausted and it was the end of the day. but still had a great time.
orientation this week, more music soon, and class monday
