finally saw the opera house today...

i finally moved in to my house sunday... its nice to finally be settled, and the house is pretty much ideal because its with other international students (germany, denmark, india), close to school, and close to the city.

of montreal and ruby suns at manning house... which is university of sydneys bar/venue... yes they have a bar/venue on campus



ruby suns opened (with one substitute member and after losing a drum in a cab). they put in alot of energy, but werent getting much from the crowd

it was a really theatrical performance... they had great outfits. and props. and enthusiastic yet awkward dancing in the crowd.

and sadly they didnt play the outback steakhouse song, well of course they didnt... although it is a perfect combination of indie pop with mainstream corporate advertising

mickey avalon made an "appearance" right outside of my flat in bondi beach on sunday afternoon... i dont think 3 songs qualifies as a "show" but it was conveniently close

yesterday was future music festival in sydney. unfortunately i did not bring my camera (only iphone), but had an incredible time. it lasted from 2-10pm and i think most people there were dancing for that entire period.

highlights:
one of the earlier djs played this really amusing song lele - "breakfast"

mr oizo drinking champagne out of the bottle, and smoking a cigarette, all while djing. plus he played justice.

css playing "meeting paris hilton", and was just all around fun.

and yacht put on an amazing show that was surprisingly intimate for such a large festival. they even took a Q and A from the crowd, which included a fan asking jona "do you like mustaches?" to which he replied "not normally, but i do like yours". they played some new songs. and they were super nice when i talked to them afterwards.

i found a place to stay for the next week until i move into a more permanent place... its in bondi beach, located about as close to the beach as you can get.







i really love living by the beach, being able to check the surf conditions by peering outside my window or stepping outside to take a run on the sand. yet i dont think i could live here for the whole semester because of the time it takes to get everywhere by bus (normally an hour to get to school or meet up with friends). so its a good place to stay for now but hopefully soon ill be living closer to school
